I just finished watching episode 3 of Dollhouse. I have to say for as excited as I was for this show, I am now almost equally disappointed. The general idea of the show is great but the execution just doesn’t seem to excite as I expected it would. I did my normal 3 episodes before making a conclusion and here it is: Dollhouse has a lot of potential that just hasn’t been realized yet. I think I’ll keep watching for a few more episodes before I totally give up on it.
I just added this to my tumblr (see bottom of the page) and then I went through and made sure my posts had tags. It’s pretty swanky and I enjoy it a lot. I guess I’ll be tagging better in the future from now.
Focusing on North American operations, GM will give up as much as half of its ownership of the Opel and Vauxhall European divisions. Get the details.
Mr. Jesse Fraim popped the big question. Congratulations are in order. I predicted he’d beat Economy and sure enough, he did.
I propose a hockey game tomorrow. At this point, I’m leaning toward the WMU game against Bowling Green State at 7:35 p.m. WMU students are free so that would be nice. On the other hand there is the K-Wings game, but thats like 15 bucks. The bonus there being beer, but once again, more expense and I just paid rent today so I vote WMU.
Not having to do any thesis work. I look forward to just sitting and watching other people’s presentations tomorrow.
I just scanned a slide at 12800 dpi. Yeah, you read that write and I didn’t add a zero.
I’m just sick of everything. I’ve got too much to do, no time to do it, a thousand responsibilities that I don’t care to have and other stuff that I’ve got to deal with that I’m not excited about. I need an actual break and I need it fast.
So I just stumbled upon the public beta of Safari 4. It adds a bunch of new stuff, a lot of it borrowed from chrome and firefox but implemented in a great Mac way. Then there is some new things too. I’ve only used it for about ten minutes so I don’t have an in depth critique yet but it definitely is a change. The tabs especially will take some getting used to.
Mozilla evangelist Chris Blizzard demonstrated the latest innovations in standards-based Web development technology during a presentation at the Southern California Linux Expo.
Thirty years ago, it would have been obscene to think a PC could fit into a case the size of the Apple II’s floppy drive. Now Charles Mangin’s Mac Mini lives in one.
My presentation went pretty well. I had this feeling that I had forgotten something, and I did. The smart board software. Luckily it wasn’t an integral part of the presentation and I could just use my cursor.
Bruce actually seemed like he got it all and was even slightly intrigued and excited for it. I feel good about it for the first time.
I’ll post my presentation and notes soon.
I’m a thesis machine right now.
Pretty amazing pic. 19th century Palermo mummy uncovered during recent sewer improvement. And people thought only alligators were down there…
The Apollo 12 mission was the second ever to land humans on the Moon. The mission was dedicated to studying the Moon, developing techniques, and developing instruments that could be used in future…
Why can’t I just sit down and get stuff done? It seems like even when I try to do things early I just end up wasting that time. Maybe I should just embrace procrastination again and purposely wait until I cannot wait any longer. At least then I’d feel like there was more to my life than working on this crap.
So a while back I posted my predictions for the Oscars. I didn’t do too bad I guess. Here are the ones I got right:
Best Picture: Slumdog Millionaire
Animated Feature: WALL•E
Director: Slumdog Millionaire
Supporting Actor: Heath Ledger
Supporting Actress: Penelope Cruz
Writing (Adapted Screenplay): Slumdog Millionaire
Makeup: Curious Case of Benjamin Button
Film Editing: Slumdog Millionaire
Costume Design: The Duchess
Original Score: Slumdog Millionaire
Original Song: Slumdog Millionaire
That’s a total of 11 right. As you can see, I was fairly bad ass.
You hear about these mythical jobs now and then, and maybe even run into somebody who has one of them. These people seem to be living in a magical land where a man can make a nice paycheck doing the…
I will not miss them.
5. cherry-limeade
4. home-made egg and cheese burgers
3. toy trucks
2. Dr. Carter’s return to ER
1. The number 2 (not the number 2 post).
This is my new study, a work in progress. I needed to learn some actionscript 3 and do a basic implementation of how to make a directory (in this case based on the sign immediately after the elevator on the third floor of the RCVA) more interactive. Right now you can access Design Center and then About and Directions sections. I plan to further explore the use of more visuals (motion, video, colors) and even sound in the future. Feedback welcome.
My new thesis study is actually pretty bad ass right now. I’m making an interactive directory that would ideally be on a touch screen (but for my study purpose is on a computer). I’ll post it online when it’s a bit further along.
Katie Krawetzke is staying at my apartment Saturday.
I have this sneaking suspicion that Tata or a Chinese company may vary well end up buying Saturn to break into the US market… In fact, I’d buy Saturn if I could, it’s the only US GM sub-company I’d buy (in case you were wondering, internationally I like GM’s Opel too).
Sounds like this makes Front Row a lot better, I look forward to trying it soon.
Welcome to the first edition of “Jonesy Goes to the Movies.” This will be what I hope is an insightful look at movies currently playing in theaters, we’ll see how it goes.
Most movies have some type of up and down. Even dumb comedies take you somewhere, on some type of journey but The Reader seems to plateau in the first 10 minutes and never rise or fall again. I’m going on record right now and saying this is the least deserving nominee for best picture this year. I really think the premise of the movie is very interesting.
This next part might be considered by some a spoiler alert but if you don’t figure it out early on in the movie than you fell asleep so I will continue… the movie basically revolves around a woman who takes up an affair with a young (like 15) boy. They have lots of sex and he reads to her. The affair ends after a few months, but it forever changes the boy who goes on to law school. During law school he attends a trial of six Nazi guards and surprise surprise, his former woman is one of them. He struggles with this and then finally realizes she was illiterate and that would possibly change the outcome of the trial but doesn’t want to embarrass her so he stays quiet. Over the years he sends her tape recordings of himself reading books and she uses them to figure out how to read and write. This whole time the dude never seems to forgive her yet he still is pretty much in love with her. Visually the movie wasn’t special and it certainly didn’t make you question everything like the previews suggest. Another beef I have is with the music, they used like the same three chords throughout the movie. That could be fine except that it didn’t express anything…
Maybe I’m totally missing something but I think it’s fairly safe to say it was overrated. Save your cash, or use it to go see Slumdog Millionaire instead.
It’d be nice if this reduced the number of spam messages I have to wait to download only so they can automatically be redirected to my junk folder and then deleted…
This review of the first episode of Dollhouse pretty much hits the nail on the head.
What a great night.
I’m sitting here watching Mad Men on DVD. This really is one of the best shows on TV right now. If you haven’t watched any of it, you need to. I’m on my second round of watching the first season right now and its great.
That brings me to hats; how come no one wears hats anymore? As far as fashion goes I was born in the wrong time period. Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t want to be without the technology of this time but I often long to wear the fashions of the old days. I want fedoras to be the norm.
There are a bunch of movies I’d like to go see that are playing right now so I thought I’d list them in no particular order.
- Coraline 3D
- Gran Torino
- Milk
- Revolutionary Road
- The Wrestler
- The International
I’m going to try a new thing here, we’ll see if it sticks. I’m going to have a top 5 of the week. I’ll try to post every Sunday (or so) and list 5 things that I’ve encountered, discovered or somehow stand out during the previous week.
5. Sonic Slushes - particularly my current favorite, the lemon-berry real fruit slush
4. Rock Band - oh how I missed you old friend
3. Surprises - especially those that result in making someone blush
2. The Beatles - no, I didn’t just discover them but I remembered how much I enjoyed them
1. Waffles - delicious, that about sums it up
There you go, 5 cool things from last week. I’m toying with the idea of this becoming a video post in the future so be excited and stay tuned.
How sweet are these? I wish I lived in Illinois right now…
