Wordpress Portfolios
I’ve been trying to get Abby’s Portfolio (still a work in progress) up and running off and on for months and everything I was trying just kept failing. I finally stumbled into this really great, light-weight and easy to implement plugin, aptly named Simple Portfolio. It was pretty easy to get into a template (based on their sample) and adding projects is a snap.
There are a few limitations, which could easily be my lack of Wordpress experience. I wish there was a little bit more documentation but so far this is the easiest and best solution I’ve found for a portfolio website in Wordpress. I know there are some pre-made themes you can buy but in terms of setting up your own theme and having an easy way to update and add projects, this is the best I’ve found.
Do you have a better solution?
WMU recently added some new “feature” stories to their homepage. I hadn’t clicked into one until today… and then my eyes started bleeding. I know gold is an official school color and all but using it as a background is just plain mean to readers. I guess it could have been worse if they put white type on top of it but really I find it painful. And what’s up with that white-to-gold gradient? It makes no sense. I think I could handle the gold if the entire “story” was kept in a white box but fading it like that is absolutely horrible. If you are going to do a gradient, it shouldn’t be that extreme and certainly not that short. All around I can’t stand the “design” of these new pages. I’m using the term design pretty loosely here… I had a very wise professor once tell me there was no such thing as bad design because if it was bad, it wasn’t designed. Perhaps these horrible decisions don’t qualify as design.
